McKinstry and Green Sports Alliance Partner on Energy Decarbonization Playbook for Venues

The Green Sports Alliance (GSA) released its latest Play to Zero Playbook, Energy Decarbonization, focused on decarbonization principles for sports and entertainment venues currently in operation. McKinstry is proud to have co-authored the playbook alongside GSA and several industry collaborators.

Energy Decarbonization is tailored to venues already in operation and aims to guide venues in reducing carbon emissions from building operations while maintaining service levels and operational excellence. The strategies and best practices outlined in the playbookprovide a comprehensive roadmap to enhance energy efficiency and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

In 2023, McKinstry co-authored the Building for the Next Generation playbook, which focused on decarbonization principles in the design and construction of new venues. Overall, the playbooks are designed to push the boundaries of sustainable design and operations and advance the future of the sports and entertainment industry.

“There is significant opportunity to decarbonize existing venues currently in operation, evolving existing buildings to meet venue owners’ operational and sustainability objectives, advance broader community goals and align with partners’ and fans’ expectations,” said McKinstry Director of Zero+ Planning Caroline Traube. “We are proud to partner with GSA and look forward to unlocking action for forward-facing, long-term decarbonization planning across the country.”

McKinstry is a proud member of the GSA as it furthers our commitment to accelerating decarbonization efforts for healthier and safer communities. McKinstry joined the alliance in 2022 to further our efforts to expand our Action for Impact and Zero+ commitments to sporting venues and communities across the country. Our partnership with Climate Pledge Arena serves as an example of what is possible when sporting venues dedicate themselves to energy efficiency and decarbonization efforts.

Join McKinstry in embracing the collective responsibility of creating more sustainable facilities that surpass current standards, empowering venues to conquer challenges and fulfill clients’ needs and forging a better future for fans altogether.
