Freer Independent School District to Upgrade Facilities for Energy Savings
Freer Independent School District and McKinstry partner to implement critical facility upgradesat no cost to taxpayers; Construction set to begin in August 2018.
FREER, Texas (Aug. 22, 2018) – Freer Independent School District (Freer ISD) announced a $1.5 million contract with McKinstry, a full-service, design-build-operate-maintain (DBOM) firm specializing in energy and facility services, to implement various school facility renovations that will ultimately pay for themselves through guaranteed annual energy savings. Construction is scheduled to begin in August.
Freer ISD facility renovations will consist of installing LED lighting systems, making improvements to all building control systems and upgrading outdated heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) units. The impact of these renovations will generate significant energy and cost savings while delivering a better learning environment for students, faculty and staff.
“These upgrades will not only help our district create a more energy-efficient environment for students but will also come at no additional cost to taxpayers and serve to improve our facilities while protecting our fund balance,” said Conrad Cantu, Freer ISD superintendent. “We are excited to partner with McKinstry to develop efficient and cost-effective solutions for our district’s schools.”
“From the start, Freer ISD clearly defined their objectives around fiscal stewardship, and Superintendent Cantu has been adamant about investing in facility upgrades and improvements as long as they provide guaranteed efficiency measures at no cost to taxpayers,” said Jorge Moreno, McKinstry project director. “We are proud to partner with a district like Freer ISD that is committed to the prosperity and conservation of their community.”
